2010 UPDATE

Posted By admin on January 20, 2010

Hey all,

Just wanted to give a quick 2010 update.  Unfortunately our site was hit by spammers, so I’ve done my best to remove the 50,904 comments left on this site in the last year, but on those posts that were a lost cause I just deleted the post rather than attempt to remove the comments.  I will be posting activity and menu details that are currently planned, but first things first.  Those that need a refresher on the standard uniform the link is below to pick up a new Wilson Shirt!

More updates soon I just wanted to give a quick shout out to get the ball rolling again!!!!

For those that care

Posted By admin on February 11, 2009

Alright, another day, another weather model.  Now its not raining Saturday, its raining every other day.  Looking at the international cloud cover map, there is an ugly storm front coming through, and it appears this is the storm they can’t predict.  But like I said earlier, who cares.

Almost there

Posted By admin on February 11, 2009

Hello,

So tomorrow we depart.  Today I’m picking up the rental (I had a nice freezing walk to work to get ready for DV) and soon we’ll be ready to go.  I would just like to say, I normally don’t get excited about things.  I just take life as it comes, if an event happens, great, if not, I didn’t have my hopes up anyway.  However this time, I’m excited.  I’m really looking forward to going to Death Valley, and I think its because of the collaboration and the sense of community on the blog and the comments, we are collectively getting excited this time, and that’s cool.  It’s even cooler that I don’t think we are excited about any one thing, but that we are all getting together in the Valley, and because that’s what we are excited about, rain, bad food, broken cars, (Mom is furiously knocking on wood right now [Sara too]) won’t bring this party down.

Well enough of that garbage, here is my final day.  5am I walked to work, at 4pm I’ll pickup the rental, from 4-6 I’ll run last minute errands picking up batteries, camera remote cords and visiting my vending machines, then I’ll head to class from 7-9:45, on returning I’ll buy wood and ice, pack up the car till probably midnight, sleep till 5am, be at Mills restaurant at 6am when they open (for Diana) and then ON THE ROAD!!!  I realize that this paragraph digresses into my life a little bit, but I’d thought I would share the next 24Hrs with you.  I’ll post again later today.

New thoughts

Posted By admin on February 10, 2009

So we have been thinking that weather.com can’t possibly be weighing in all the factors and variables that are unique to Death Valley.  Given my previous post about rain shadow and other things I have learned, and a conversation with Rubber Duck we think that the rain won’t be as bad as listed.  However POD has a really good approach.  He is planning completely for rain, assuming that there won’t be any sun.  Not bringing sunblock, short sleeves, but completely packing for rain.  In this way he is using Murphy’s law against itself, by preparing for only rain, there will be sun.

Whatever method you choose (I’m rain dancing backwards myself) get ready, “IT’S THE WONDER OF NATURE WAHOOO”- Dusty in the motion picture  Twister.

Day to Day updates

Posted By admin on February 10, 2009

Hello,

Alright, moving closer to the departure date, we are now forecasting rain Saturday, Sunday, and Monday.  Once again Saturday is the only constant in all the models.  GOOD NEWS! riding will happen rain or shine according to Minnie’s comment post and conversation with the stable master.  Way to keep up to date Minne!  I’m actually hoping it does rain, that will be a story starting conversation for the future.  “At the time, I was looking behind me,  picture it- there I was on my horse riding through the rain in Death Valley and I hear the commotion coming from the front.”  Granted I did just add some event to the story, but the rain riding is key…see, your interested, you want to know what happened.

By the way, for those in other parts of the country, the average rainfall in February is .4 inches.   So when we are talking about rain, we are talking about usually very little, and it evaporates quickly.  According to Wikipedia the average yearly rain is about 2 inches, the average evaporation rate in the bottom of the valley is 150 inches a year.  But again thanks to the mountains to the West causing a rain shadow (look it up on wiki, very interesting) things should be fine.

-Luke

P.S. For those of you who know our place, the entire floor from the couches to the TV and wall is now crammed with stuff we are taking…

P.P.S I will be working on setting up remote blogging, so I can blog as far as I have blackberry service on Thursday when we head up…

What is the sizing?
These are generic t-shirts, Men, get the size shirt you normally would buy, they are pre-shrunk.  Women, these shirts are considered male sizing, so go small.

Can I get another color than Blue?
Right now, no.  This Special Edition Wilson Shirt is offered for the moment in Blue, if there is great demand for another color that might be possible.

Why no Women’s shirts?
The Royal Blue is not offered in women’s shirts, again, if there is a high demand for it in another color that might be possible.  But for now, this is the best way to match the flag.

Can I get something other then Yellow?
You people sure are demanding.  For now no, the Yellow design is all that is offered, in order to feature additional colors for the writing it will require at least two of these blue shirts get sold to cover the cost of upgrading the “store”

AHha!  You are making money on this arn’t you!
Seriously, thats not even a question.  But I’ll answer the statement anyway.  Yes there is a very small percentage added to the cost in order to offset the cost of running this site.  But as I said above, the first two shirts that are purchased, all the procedes will go towards upgrading the “shop” and offering additional gear and designs.

What do you mean additional gear?
Sweatshirts, long sleeves, hoodies, boxers.  This list is fairly large.

Dude, I have a shirt I’ve always wanted, can you design it and put it up for me?
Dude? really you just called me dude when you are proposing a partnership?  I don’t have my MBA yet but I think thats not good form.  But yes, if the shop gets upgraded I would be more then happy to design and post any shirt you can think of, in any size, and type.

You really expect me to wear that?
No, we are not expecting everyone to buy and wear these HOWEVER both Diana and I have ours on order and will be sporting them in Death Valley.

Will I get them in time for DV?
Hopefully, however there are options for faster shipping, so take a look when you check out.

Will this FAQ ever end?
Your the one with all the questions
